Surface finish
Electropolish is reverse plating. It dissolves a thin surface layer to leave a smooth, bright, clean finish.
What it is
Electropolishing is the reverse of electroplating. The part is the anode in a chemical bath. A small amount of surface metal is removed, taking peaks down to the valleys. The result is a smooth, bright, micro-clean surface with fewer gaps for bacteria or corrosion to hide.
How it works
Clean & degrease
We remove oil and particles first.
Immerse as anode
The part is the positive electrode in the bath.
Apply current
Surface peaks dissolve faster than valleys.
Rinse & passivate
We rinse and often passivate the stainless.
Why choose it
Mirror-like, easy-to-clean surface.
Removes inclusions that start rust.
Fewer crevices for bacteria to grow.
Rounds micro-edges as it smooths.
Removes only microns.
Typical specs
| Specification | Typical range / value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Material removal | 1 – 25 µm | |
| Surface roughness | Down to Ra 0.1 µm | |
| Base materials | Stainless steel, aluminium, titanium | |
| Finish | Bright, reflective |
Best applications
Surgical and implant tools.
Hygienic process equipment.
Clean chambers and parts.
Valves and couplings.
Materials
We apply Electropolish to the materials below. Not sure if your material qualifies? Our engineers will confirm it for free.
Our solution
We electropolish stainless and other metals to a bright, hygienic finish. We often pair it with passivation for maximum corrosion resistance.
Design tips
Best where hygiene matters most.
Very thin edges may round more.
A few microns are removed; allow stock.
