The problem

Hard Metal Breaks Tools and Bends Thin Walls

Hardened steel wears out cutters fast. Thin walls bend under cutting force. Sharp internal corners are impossible to mill.

With YiguProto as your China manufacturer and supplier, you get one accountable partner from quote to delivery.

  • Cuts hardened steel and carbide with no cutting force
  • Small internal corners that milling cannot reach
  • Burr-free edges, straight thin walls
  • Factory-direct pricing, no middleman markup

The basics

What Is Wire EDM — and Why Does It Cut So Cleanly?

Wire EDM is a cutting process that uses electricity, not a blade. A thin wire burns through metal with thousands of tiny sparks.

Wire EDM stands for electrical discharge machining. A thin brass wire runs past your part, and electric sparks jump across a small gap.

Each spark melts a tiny bit of metal. The wire never touches the part, so there is no cutting force and no bending.

That is why wire EDM cuts hardened steel, carbide and thin walls that would break under a milling cutter.

Thin wire electrode 0.1–0.3 mm brass Spark gap Sparks erode the metal No cutting force Thin walls stay straight Deionized water Flushes chips and cools

Cuts Any Hard Metal

Hardness does not slow it down. Tool steel, carbide and Inconel cut just as well.

No Distortion

With no cutting force, thin walls and delicate parts stay flat.

Sharp Corners

Internal radii down to about 0.2 mm — far smaller than a milling cutter.

Burr-Free Edges

Sparks leave a clean edge, so there is little or no deburring to do.

Four Ways to Lower Your Wire EDM Cost

Wire EDM is precise, but it is not fast. Small changes keep the price down.

Cut Less Material

Pre-machine with milling, then use EDM only for the fine detail.

Add a Start Hole

A pre-drilled start hole saves the machine from burning one in.

Relax Tight Tolerances

Only tighten the features that need it. Fewer skim passes cost less.

Pick the Right Wire

Thicker wire cuts faster. Thin wire is only for fine detail.

FAQ

Wire EDM — Frequently Asked Questions

Wire EDM cuts hard, conductive metals into precise 2D shapes. It is used for dies, punches, gears, slots, keyways and any flat part that needs tight tolerances and a burr-free edge.
We hold ±0.005 mm as standard, and tighter with multiple skim passes. Wire EDM removes material with sparks, not cutting force, so thin walls and hard parts stay straight.
Any conductive metal: tool steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, carbide, titanium, Inconel, aluminium, copper and brass. We cannot cut plastics or other non-conductive materials.
Our machines handle workpieces up to 800 x 600 x 300 mm. Cutting speed drops as the part gets thicker, so we will confirm the best setup when we quote.
Wire EDM reaches small internal radii that milling cannot, down to about 0.2 mm with a thin wire. True sharp corners are not possible, because the wire itself has a diameter.
Send your drawings or 3D files. Most quotes come back within a few hours on business days, never more than 24 hours.
Yes. All customer files and ideas are treated as confidential. We sign NDAs when needed.
Typical lead time is 3 to 7 business days for wire EDM parts, depending on quantity and complexity.
